HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — For a week, a couple in southeast Houston says they’ve had to deal with water gushing from a meter right outside their home.
While the city has fixed the issue, both want to know why a matter they say was urgent took this long to address.
The home is located on Glenview Dr. near Hobby Airport. Collin Cox and Quinn Doran bought it two months ago
“This is our dream house. We love this house. We love the neighborhood. It’s just frustrating. As soon as we’ve been settling in, something like this has happened,” Doran said.
They say lately, living there has been anything but a dream.
The water has completely saturated as you get closer and closer to the foundation,” Cox said.
A week ago, the couple says a water meter outside their home burst. Since then, they say, water has kept gushing.
“All the water that’s not getting into the street is flowing down into our house, next to our foundation, and is just pooling up in there, completely saturating the ground and causing a lot of damage,” Cox said.
Cox and Doran say they’ve reached out to the city for help.
“Every day, we’ve been calling, multiple times a day,” Cox said.
In the meantime, the homeowners have taken matters into their own hands to stop the water from flowing.
“I’ve been trying to do everything possible, so basically bought 12 hundred pounds of sand, been trying to fill sandbags and putting them up against the foundation, just trying to mitigate as much as I can,” Cox said.
ABC13 checked with the city and found that the issue was reported a week ago, on Aug. 27.
When asked why it took that long to send crews, a spokesperson said an inspector was sent on Aug. 28, and public works needs three working business days before excavation.
While it looks like things may be going back to normal for this couple’s dream home, they say the city still has left them frustrated.
“Take our problems seriously. This is a historical home, this is important to us, and we deserve the help when we need it,” Doran said.
City officials say the cause of the leak hasn’t been determined.
