Suspect in custody after multi-vehicle crash during brief pursuit in northwest Harris County, Pct. 4 deputies say

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A suspect is in custody after reportedly throwing drugs out of a window and crashing into several vehicles while trying to avoid arrest, according to Harris County Precinct 4 deputies.

Authorities said the chase began on F.M. 1960 near TC Jester Boulevard and ended about 10 minutes later at the intersection of Louetta and Kuykendahl Roads.

Photos and video show the intersection shut down and filled with law enforcement around 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Law enforcement tells ABC13 the chase began when an officer saw a man throw what appeared to be drugs out of his car window.

Herbert Lee said he witnessed the beginning of the chase from across the road.

“I was standing over there by my truck, and I heard some racket, and the next thing I know, I see a bunch of police cars coming,” Lee said.

Lee says the interaction began in the nearby Walmart parking lot, and moments later, he heard the sound of metal crunching.

“I ran over there just to see what was going on, and before I knew it, a bunch of police cars were coming down the road, and I just prayed and hoped nobody got hurt,” Lee said.

Precinct 4 said the fleeing suspect hit two vehicles near the Walmart, and two more before the chase ended. Only minor injuries were reported.

“Anytime is bad, but thankfully nobody got hurt, or run over, or got killed,” Lee said.

Precinct 4 said the suspect was in a stolen vehicle, and the Harris County District Attorney has accepted charges for failure to stop and render aid, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony evading, and possession of a controlled substance. He has not been identified.

Precinct 4 initially reported that the suspect had an outstanding warrant.
