SWAT scene underway in Kingwood after suspect barricades himself, sets fire to home as officials issue arrest warrant

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — An active SWAT scene is underway in Kingwood on Friday afternoon after a suspect reportedly barricaded himself inside a home and set it on fire as deputies were issuing an arrest warrant, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The situation unfolded in the 2000 block of Shadow Rock Drive just after 12 p.m.

HCSO officials stated that deputies were serving a warrant at the home, and the suspect reportedly refused to exit. According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the man was wanted after allegedly assaulting a family member.

HCSO said the suspect then began opening fire near the deputies before retreating inside and barricading himself.

At one point, officers said the home, in which the suspect was inside, burst into flames. In an update, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed that the suspect set the house on fire before a gas line erupted, causing flames to fan out.

ABC13’s SkyEye was above the scene where the home could be seen deteriorating by the second as flames engulfed it.

Officials did not provide an update on the condition or whether anyone else was present at the home.

As a precaution, the Humble Independent School District said that select schools were placed in secure mode as the dismissal process was about to begin.
