DEER PARK, Texas (KTRK) — A shelter-in-place was issued following a chemical release at the Lubrizol Corporation facility in Deer Park, city officials said.
The City of Deer Park said the shelter-in-place order was issued Friday morning as a precaution for industrial sites north of Highway 225, including the Lubrizol facility.
Officials said there was no danger to nearby homes and that the Lubrizol Emergency Response Team was handling the situation.
In a statement, Lubrizol Corporation said the incident occurred when its crews were performing maintenance on a processing unit, and that “the non-operational equipment experienced an unanticipated release.”
Lubrizol echoed officials, saying that the shelter-in-place was limited to the site and its industrial neighbors and that there was no anticipated impact on offsite neighbors.
Deer Park officials said emergency vehicles were at the scene and that Tidal Road was closed as a safety measure, but it reopened by Friday afternoon.
Neither the officials’ statement nor Lubrizol stated what chemical was released.
ABC13 reported on a similar incident in July 2025, when officials said two chemical plant workers were hospitalized after an unknown odor was detected at the Lubrizol facility.
