HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The All-Greater Houston High School preseason team was named by the Touchdown Club of Houston at their Touchdowner of the Year dinner.
“I’m grateful, so grateful,” CE King running back Dionne Sims said.
“This is an honor, really it is,” Pasadena Memorial offensive lineman Devan Robison said.
“I’m glad I can be a great example to the younger guys coming up,” William Blaylock of Cy Ranch said.
It’s a great way to kick off the season with season goals in mind.
“I want to get farther than what we did last year,” Malachi Gamble of Dickinson said.
“Nothing less than a state championship,” Atascocita’s Cardae Mack said.
“What are you guys going to do? How do you guys want to be remembered?” Noriel Dominguez of Randle said.
As good as these players are on the field, I came away more impressed with their commitment to work in the classroom.
“I feel like the way you do your schoolwork is the same way you study film,” Robert McFarland of Lamar said.
“My dad I believe was a student in the honor roll,” Isaiah McMillian of Katy said. “My mom was also high up there she wanted to be a nurse, so I feel like it comes from that.”
“I know school can take me further than ball”, Xavier Harmon of Conroe said. “I committed to Stanford.”
It was good to see locals there will stay locals after graduation. University of Houston commits Jayden Warren of Iowa Colony and Cy Springs Paris Melvin Jr. were recognized as All-Greater Houston preseason players. As was another UH commit John Hebert of Strake Jesuit who led the state and was second in the entire nation in rushing yards a year ago.
“I’m just trying to just do my job,” Hebert said. “Just not so much focus on the stats. I’m just trying to focus on having a good year doing my job.”
The best-dressed award goes to Malachi Augustus of Nimitz. Looking good. A little different from the way he looks on Friday night.
Who helped you with this outfit here? Do you have a designer or a stylist? No, my brothers helped me,” Augustus said.
