Woman charged with arson in west Houston, accused of setting fires in yards of 2 homes, charging docs show

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A woman is facing arson charges for the second time this year after police say she set fires in the front lawns of two homes in west Houston on Wednesday, according to charging documents.

Investigators arrested Toni Nhem in the same area where she’s accused of starting the fires on Agar Lane, off the Sam Houston Tollway.

Nhem is in jail, charged with arson, but it’s unclear why police said that she chose these two homes on that road.

Court records show that she pleaded guilty to a similar offense three miles from these homes in April.

Ricardo Morales has lived on this road for forty years. He says he’s never seen anything like it.

Houston police say Nhem set fire to tree branches and leaves sitting in people’s front lawns.

Court records state that six months ago, Nhem was arrested for the same thing at a home on Hammerly Boulevard. Records show that she pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of criminal mischief and was sentenced to 90 days in jail.

Morales was shocked when we told him about Nhem’s prior conviction for the same thing.

People say they are thankful the fires were put out before they turned into something catastrophic in the neighborhood.
