Woman dead, 1 injured after being shot by a man while riding METRO bus in west Houston, police say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A woman is dead and another person is injured after being shot by a suspect on a METRO bus on Wednesday in west Houston, according to officials.

Police say that the woman, who is described to be in her 20s and was an innocent bystander, was shot in the head by a man shortly after he boarded the bus at around 2:32 p.m. near Walnut Bend at Richmond Avenue.

According to law enforcement, the suspect got onto the bus at a time when passengers were getting on and off.

Preliminary information indicates the suspect boarded the bus and discharged a weapon toward two males who were already on board. A bullet fatally struck a female passenger, not involved in the incident.

The victim immediately got off the bus and was taken to the hospital with severe injuries, where she later died, according to officials.

The bus driver quickly stopped the bus and safely offloaded the rest of the passengers.

Meanwhile, officials said the suspect ran into an apartment complex.

Police said they are now looking for a suspect between the ages of 17 and 20 years old, who’s wearing a black hoodie, light-colored gray shorts, and slides.

Initially, officials said there were two suspects, but now they say there only appears to be one suspect, whom they are looking for right now.
